Electric coolant pump and its pin details Pump can recognize stall or over-current if the internally measured current of the pump exceeds ILimit. There are 3 detection scenarios observed with over current which are discussed in detail below. Detection Scenario Reaction Diagnosis Stall After a recognized stall, the pump is switched off. After a certain time, a restart attempt is performed. Restart attempts will take place after certain pause times, if a stalled pump is permanently detected. In case of a stalled pump, a diagnosis will be sent Check Troubleshooting table for healing Over-current derating The over-current derating can be activated only in the speed-controlled operation of the pump. The over-current derating is activated if the internally measured current of the pump exceeds ILimit. With activated over-current derating the current consumption is limited to ILimit. No diagnosis will be sent to VCU but pump will rotate with reduced speed over-current shutdown After an overcurrent is detected with an actuated pump, the pump is switched off immediately. When the pump is off and the overcurrent is no longer present, a restart attempt takes place after a certain time. If the overcurrent is detected repeatedly, the pump is switched off again and performs restart attempts after certain time intervals.
