Fault Effects (On Vehicle) Starter relay will not engage Lamp Status (If Any) CE lamp is ON Fault Detection Condition This fault gets logged under the following conditions: Ignition ON and Starter Relay control pin of EMS ECU is short circuited to Battery. Normal Operating Condition Diagnostic tool display the battery voltage, crank input & engine RPM status during cranking Probable Trouble Area Starter Relay, ECU Main relay, ECU, Wiring harness Healing Condition Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle & fly-up condition Component Details: Starter Relay activates the Starter solenoid for vehicle starting. EMS energizes the starter relay if all the pre-conditions required for starter motor engagement are fulfilled. Preliminary Checks Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence. Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to earlier issue closure. Check whether relay contacts weld / Stuck open or not. If found open, then rectify/replace it Check whether there are any pins damaged at EMS ECU Connector. If found faulty then replace the connector or wiring harness Check whether there are any pins backed out from the EMS ECU Connector. If found faulty then replace the connector or wiring harness. Check whether the starter relay is connected in vehicle Trouble Shooting: Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Are Relay Contacts weld / Stuck open? Replace the Relay Go to Step 2 2. Is there wiring harness electrical continuity between ECU pin B70 & Starter relay coil pin 86 . Also Check continuity between the Main Relay supply and the relay Coil pin 30 and Battery supply to Crank Inhibit relay contact pin Go to Step 3 Establish continuity by rectifying harness connection as in the circuit schematic 3. Are there any pins damaged at EMS ECU Connector Replace the connector or wiring harness Go to step 4 4 Are there any pins backed out from the EMS ECU Connector Rectify/Replace Connectors Go to Step 5 5 Is relay getting Supply at its pin? Go to Step 6 Repair the harness as per the schematic
