This document must not be used in any w ay, such as copying and redistributing to third parties, w ithout our consent P0500-08: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Circuit Overview: DTC Code P0500-08 DTC Description as per ISO standard Vehicle Speed Sensor “A” circuit ECU Pin Number B80, B81 Customer Symptom No Speedo Display, No Current gear display, No gear shift indication, Loss of Power. Fault Effects (On Vehicle) Possibly No Speedo Display. EGR is disabled Current Gear display feature will not work. GSI feature will not work Injector learning strategy is deactivated, MDP, Speed Pilot Control Updation is deactivated Reduced torque mode [Restricted performance] Lamp Status (If Any) Fault Detection Condition This DTC will get logged if EMS ECU gets implausible speed signal from IPC Normal Operating Condition No Faults related to vehicle speed signal Probable Trouble Area Vehicle speed sensor (non ABS vehicle), Instrument Cluster (Non-ABS Vehicle), ABS ECU(ABS vehicle), Wheel Speed Sensors (ABS vehicle), EMS ECU. Relevant Wiring harness connections. Healing Condition Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle, fly-up and specially vehicle running in different speed condition Component Details: Vehicle speed sensor detects vehicle speed based on rotation.A typical Hall Effect Sensor has three wires or terminals: one for ground, one for supply or reference voltage and one for the output signal. To produce an output signal, a Hall Effect Sensor must be supplied with a reference voltage. When a metal/wheel passes through the air gap between the magnetic field (Magnet) and silicon chip, it blocks the magnetic field and causes the chip’s output voltage to suddenly drop to zero else the chip's output voltage is 12 Volts. So, it produces a near square wave/ pulses, which will be counted and vehicle speed is calculated. Preliminary Checks Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence. Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to earlier issue closure. Check for pin back out at EMS ECU connector or EGR valve connector. Perform the preliminary checks mentioned in the vehicle speed failure logged by Instrument Cluster ECU.
