P0720-12 Speed sensor measurement channel 1: short-circuit to battery (outer shaft clutch 1) Overview: ISO Code P0720-12 Customer Symptom • Transmission fault lamp ON Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • Transmission fault lamp ON. • AMT shift(Drivability effect observed) Lamp Status (If Any) • Transmission fault lamp ON Service indication 0x2 Fault Detection Condition speed sensor input connected to battery for >500ms Normal Operating Condition TCU does not detect short to battery fault on clutch 1 speed sensor Probable Trouble Area 1. wiring loom towards the outer shaft clutch 1 speed sensor 2. outer shaft clutch 1 speed sensor 3. TCU damaged. Healing Condition The reaction is cleared at SW restart and driving if the detection is FALSE for more than 1000 ms Component Details: The Speed sensor - outer shaft(clutch speed 1) used in clutch actuation module in order to precisely control the torque transferred by both clutches. Preliminary Checks: 1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Sensor and TCU. 2) Visually check sensor mounting& Air gap, proper tightening of mounting screws and any visible damage. 3) Check for damage or back out of pins at Clutch speed sensor connector and TCU connector. 4) Check correct fitment of ground cable connections on vehicle chassis. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the wiring loom towards the outer shaft clutch 1 speed sensor. Is there any rust/oxidation/pin back out observed on TCU PIN 16 (outer shaft speed) in Transmission side 28 pole connector and on Pin 1 in Speed sensor outer shaft connector? If damaged, replace the transmission wiring harness. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back Go to step 2 2. If the fault is still active, replace the outer shaft speed sensor. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back Go to step 3 3. Replace the TCU if the problem persists & flash the adaption data from the previous TCU. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back • Resistance Check ➢ Disconnect connector (X-201) and check below resistance at (X-201) connector terminal
