P1666-4B TCU ambient temperature control: over temperature Overview: ISO Code P1666-4B Customer Symptom • Transmission fault lamp ON • Warning message after 100km Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • Transmission fault lamp ON • Warning message after 100km Lamp Status (If Any) Transmission fault lamp ON Service indication 0x2 Fault Detection Condition TCU internal error BOARD_TEMP > 130 degree OR CORE_TEMP > 150 degree, temperature too high (FFT 5000ms) Normal Operating Condition TCU does not detect any internal error Probable Trouble Area 1. TCU for excessive dirt on the fins. 2. Airflow towards the TCU. 3. Vehicle FAN. 4. TCU. Healing Condition The reaction is cleared at SW restart and during driving if the detection is FALSE for more than 5000 ms Component Details: TCU having internal board temperature sensor and it is transmitted via CAN bus to the TCU. Preliminary Checks: 1) Check the TCU for excessive dirt on the fins. 2) Loose/ Damaged External temperature sensor Connections. 3) Check for damage or back out of pins at Instrument cluster connector and TCU connector. 4) Check correct fitment of ground cable connections on vehicle chassis. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the TCU for excessive dirt on the fins. If TCU has excessive dirt then clear the dirt. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. Go to step 2 2. Check air flow towards the TCU, the air flow over TCU should not be blocked. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. Go to step 3 3. Check if vehicle FAN is operational, it is not operational than perform the Fan repair as prescribed by vehicle manufacturer. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. Go to step 4 4. Replace the TCU if the problem persists & flash the adaption data from the previous TCU. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. DTC’s confirmation:- After rectification, clear all DTC’s and ensure the following points by referring TCU parameters using TML diagnostic tool before handing over to customer. • Drive the vehicle through all gears in both Automatic and Manual modes. • Ensure no DTC is active and Transmission Fault Lamp is OFF.
