U0103-00 CAN communication with GSM failed Overview: ISO Code U0103-00 Customer Symptom • Critical malfunction. Powertrain is opened. Power loss triggered when standing still- Gearshift is disabled • Transmission fault lamp ON • Creep function is disabled • Cranking is disabled • Gear shift lever remain in Park position only • “Fault” is displayed on cluster Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • Critical malfunction. Powertrain is opened. Power loss triggered when standing still- Gearshift is disabled • Transmission fault lamp ON • Creep function is disabled • Cranking is disabled • Gear shift lever remain in Park position only • “Fault” is displayed on cluster Lamp Status (If Any) • Transmission fault lamp ON (Service indication 0x1) Fault Detection Condition CAN communication failure (either CRC or time-out or sequence counter) with the GSM node (on the receiving side, i.e. TCU = receiver) for > 1000ms Normal Operating Condition GSM communicated properly with TCU. Probable Trouble Area 1. GSM controller. 2. TCU. 3. Wiring harness towards TCU. Healing Condition The reaction is cleared at SW restart if the detection is FALSE for more than 0 ms Component Details:- Controller Area Network or CAN protocol is a method of communication between various electronic devices like engine management systems, ABS, gear control, lighting control, air conditioning, airbags, central locking etc. Embedded in an automobile. Preliminary Checks:- 1) Check for short conditions between CAN_H and CAN_L connection between GSM & TCU There should not be any short circuit conditions. 2) Check GSM node is properly connected. 3) Check GSM Fuse is properly fitted. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the GSM controller. Check other modules on CAN. Replace the GSM and TCU if this issue is reported. Fix the problem on GSM controller. Go to step 2
