U0121-00 CAN communication with ABS/ESP failed Overview: ISO Code U0121-00 Customer Symptom • warning light on dashboard • Able to drive the vehicle up to 4th gear Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • warning light on dashboard • Able to drive the vehicle up to 4th gear Lamp Status (If Any) Transmission fault lamp ON(Service indication 0x2) Fault Detection Condition 1. CAN communication failure (either CRC or time-out or sequence counter) with the ABS/ESP node (on the receiving side, i.e. TCU = receiver) for > 1000ms 2. ABS/ ESP is not powered up 3. ABS/ ESP connector is not connected/ disconnected from vehicle side wiring harness. 4. CAN_H, CAN_L or/ and both lines of TCU are opened 5. Wrong data length (less than expected data) from ABS ECU Normal Operating Condition ABS ECU communicated properly with DCT TCU. Probable Trouble Area 1. ABS/ESP controller. 2. TCU. 3. Wiring harness towards TCU. Healing Condition 1. To fix the ABS connector correctly and Fix the wiring harness issues from ABS side. 2. CAN_H, CAN_L or/ and both lines of TCM are connected properly to the TCM connector. Component Details:- Controller Area Network or CAN protocol is a method of communication between various electronic devices like engine management systems, ABS, gear control, lighting control, air conditioning, airbags, central locking etc. Embedded in an automobile. Preliminary Checks:- 1. Check the vehicle battery voltage. 2. Check if the vehicle battery voltage is less than or equal to 6.5V 3. If battery voltage is low i.e. less than or equal to 6.5V, then resolve the low battery voltage issue in the vehicle. 4. Now check the DTC status and clear the DTC. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the ABS/ESP controller and the CAN connection from the engine controller. Check other modules on CAN, If this issue is reported. Fix the problem on ABS/ESP controller. Go to step 2
