U0404-01 Gear Lever defect Overview: ISO Code U0404-01 Customer Symptom • Critical malfunction. Power train is opened. Power loss triggered when standing still-Gearshift is disabled • Creeping function is disabled • Transmission Fault Lamp ON Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • Critical malfunction. Power train is opened. Power loss triggered when standing still-Gearshift is disabled • Creeping function is disabled • Transmission Fault Lamp ON Lamp Status (If Any) Transmission Fault Lamp ON (Service indication 0x1) Fault Detection Condition CAN signals gear shift lever position from GSL on private CAN incorrect for > 1100ms Normal Operating Condition TCU received no implausible data from GSL Probable Trouble Area 1. GSL controller. 2. TCU. 3. Wiring harness towards TCU. Healing Condition The reaction is cleared at SW restart if the detection is FALSE for more than 0 ms Component Details:- Controller Area Network or CAN protocol is a method of communication between TCU & GSL. Preliminary Checks:- 1. Check for any loose connection or visible damage Pin back out on Pin 9, 10, 4 and 11 on GSL connector. 2. Check for any loose connection or visible damage/Pin back out on Pin 17,18 wiring harness of DCT TCU 28 pole connector. 3. Check wiring harness continuity between TCU wiring harness connector Pin no. 17, 18 to 9, 10 on GSL connector. 4. Check the TCU & GSL fuses is installed or opened. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the GSL controller, if this issue is reported. Fix the problem on GSL controller. Changed the shifter. Go to step 2 2. If this issue is only reported in TCU, disconnect the vehicle side connector on TCU & connect it back again. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. Go to step 3 3. If issue persists, check wiring harness towards TCU. If damaged, replace the vehicle side transmission wiring harness. Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back.
