ECU Functional Description The Instrument Cluster (IC) monitors the vehicle’s systems and functions by considering various inputs from switches, sensors etc. which are connected to it (hardwired or through CAN and LIN). It provides the vehicle’s occupants with information regarding the status and operating condition of these systems and functions, including. Examples of typical functions monitored by the IC: • Vehicle Speed • Engine Speed • Coolant Temperature • Oil Pressure • Fuel Level • Exterior Lights • Doors / Boot • Airbag (fault status) • Engine Management (fault status) • Illumination Output The IC communicates with other ECUs over CAN, and acts as a CAN-CAN gateway. Through its position in the vehicle communications network, the IC is the diagnostic gateway to all other ECUs. The IC acts as the Master ECU (MECU) with regard to acquisition and transmission of Global Snapshot Data. IC variants considered here are 7TFT Digital Nexon MCE2.
