P0617-12: Starter Relay Circuit High – Circuit Short to Battery Overview: ISO Code P0617-12 Customer Symptom Vehicle will not Start Fault Effects (On Vehicle) Vehicle will not Start Lamp Status (If Any) Sil Lamp ON after 1 drive cycle Fault Detection Condition Ignition ON and Starter Relay 1 control pin of EMS ecu is short circuited to Battery supply. Normal Operating Condition Wiring Harness connections as per circuit schematic between EMS ecu and Starter relay 1, Relay Fully operational. Probable Trouble Area Improper Wiring Harness Connections, Starter relay Stuck Open Healing Condition After 1 Drive cycles and Ignition ON Fault permanent deletion 1. Clear DTC Command form Scan tool 2. Stack Over Flow. 3. 40 warm up cycles. 4. ECU flashing 5. ECU Power-Fail Component Details: Starter Relay is a normally open relay. It is an electrically controlled switch. By energizing the coil of the relay, its contacts get closed. Preliminary Checks: 1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Starter Relay and EMS ecu. 2) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Starter Relay Contact pin X & Battery supply or Starter relay Contact pin X and Starter Relay-2 Contact pin X. 3) Check for back out of pins at ECU connector. 4) Check for damage of pins at ECU connector.
