P1018-64: Starter implausible error - signal plausibility failure Overview: ISO Code P1018-64 Customer Symptom Starter enagagement without user requested crank. Fault Effects (On Vehicle) 1. Starter tak-tak noise and vehicle may stall if in running condition 2. Vehicle will not crank if fault persist in vehicle. 3. Starter may be damaged.. Lamp Status (If Any) Sil (Service lamp) ON in 1st drive cycle Fault Detection Condition External short circuit to starter solenoid. Normal Operating Condition Starter will be only activated if user request for crank or crank input is present. Probable Trouble Area Starter control Relays, Starter Related WH, Starter Motor. Healing Condition After 1 drive cycles, CEL lamp OFF if fault is rectified. Fault Permanent deletion 1. Clear DTC Command from Scan tool 2. Stack Over Flow 3. 40 warm up cycles 4. ECU Flashing 5. ECU Power-Fail Component Details: Starter motors are generally used to crank the engine at the starting of vehicle. Starter control logic is present in EMS swoftware which ensures that starter relay shall only be activated or engaged if a valid user request to crank the vehicle crank the vehicle is present. As soon as u.ser crank request becomes false or vehicle is successfully cranked, EMS disengages the starte relays to trun off the starter If external short to starter solenoid is happened then there is possibility of damage of starter solenoid. Preliminary Checks: 1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Sensors/actuators and EMS ECU. 2) Check for back out of pins at both Sensors/actuators connector and ECU connector. 3) Check for damage of pins at both Sensors/actuators connector and ECU connector. 4) Check the continuity from Sensors/actuators connector pins to the ECU pins. 5) Check starter related WH damage. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1 Check if starter is externally shorted to battery or starter related WH is damaged? Rectify / replace the related WH. Go to Step 2 2 Check if Starter control relay # 1 or / and relay # 2 are external shorted to battery or Ground or welded? Rectify/Replace the starter relays. Go to Step 3 3 Check if starter relay control pins (211 and 209) at EMS ECU are damaged or WH from ECU to starter relays are damaged? Rectify / replace the WH from EMS pins to starter relays. Go to Step 4 4 Check if Starter motor is damaged? Replace the Starter motor. Go to step 5 5 Fault still persists? Replace the EMS ECU. Follow the steps for reconfirmation.
