3. CALIPER HOUSING Bore should be free from score, pitting, and corrosion. The seal groove in the bore should be thoroughly cleaned and no nicks should be there at the edges. If the above conditions are quite satisfactory then replacement with appropriate kit will give satisfactory performance. If not the caliper, assembly should be replaced. 4. ASSEMBLY GUIDE ROD Guide rod should be free from rust and bends and boot guide rod should be soft and free from cracks or puncture. If in doubt, replace them. Check the Sliding pin grease and replace it at specified interval 5. DISC INSPECTION The disc should not have heavy score marks. If scored, it should be changed. The disc thickness variation is to be checked by measuring the thickness of the rotor at four or more points around the circumference of the rotor. All measurements must be made at the same distance from the edge of the rotor. After fitment, the face runout of the disc should be less than 0.06 mm. During measurement, confirm the dial gauge probe should be approx. 10 mm from the outer edge of the brake rotor, perpendicular to the disc and under slight preload. Check front wheel bearing for looseness before face runout measurement. The control of the braking surface finish is necessary to avoid pulls and erratic performance. It will also help in extending pad life. 6. FLUSHING BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM It is always recommended that entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid whenever new parts are installed in it. Period change of brake fluid is also recommended. BRAKES 34
