P0335: Crank Sensor Signal – Signal loss fault
Overview:
DTC Description as per ISO standard
Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit

Customer Symptom
Engine will not fire
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
If the Air gap between sensor and the flywheel is not ok, then
number of cam shaft event will be higher than expected and no crank event
will be detected.
Engine will crank but not fire.
Lamp Status (If Any)
CE lamp is ON
Fault Detection Condition
This DTC gets logged If the ECU does not receive crank sensor signal. This
can happen as a result of Open circuit on Crank sensor Signal line
Normal Operating Condition
Diagnostic tool display the value of crank shaft sensor status at idling
Probable Trouble Area
Crankshaft sensor, ECU, Grounding points, Wiring harness
Healing Condition
Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle condition
Component Details:
This is fitted on the crankcase and faces the phonic wheel on the flywheel. It is inductive type, i.e. its operation is
determined by magnetic field changes generated by the teeth passing in front of the phonic wheel. The changeover from
full to empty determined by the presence or absence of a gap brings about a magnetic flux change sufficient to generate
an induced alternating voltage proportional to the number of teeth on the ring (or phonic wheel). The frequency and
amplitude of the voltage send to the electronic control unit provides the latter with an indication of the engine angular
speed. The sensor output signal approximates a sine wave whose frequency is proportional to engine speed and
amplitude is approximately proportional to engine speed. Active edge is generated from zero crossing point positive to
negative transition.
Preliminary Checks

Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If
yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to
earlier issue closure.

Visually check the sensor for damage etc.,
x
Check for metallic particles/burr in sensor tip and flywheel teeth; if noticed Clean the sensor tip and flywheel to
remove any foreign particle.
x
Ensure sensor is connected with the connector (wiring harness)
x
Visually check if the missing teeth on fly wheel is alright
x
Check gap between Crank sensor tip to Flywheel teeth; gap should be close to 1mm.
x
Check sensor connections for rust dirt etc., Ensure clean connector pins and proper fitment.
