P0045: Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control “A” Circuit / Open

Overview:

Description as per ISO

Standard

Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit/Open

ECU Pin number

08

Customer Symptom

Engine restricted performance

Probable black smoke

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Disables EGR by setting desired rate to 0. This will affect

EGRH rate, EGRL rate, IFLAP, Throttle, Intake manifold

pressure and boost pressure.

Reduced Torque Mode gets activated

Speed Pilot control dynamic will get disabled (Injector dynamic learning)

VGT actuator control will be disabled

Lamp Status (If Any)

MI Lamp ON

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged if the VGT valve control pin of EMS ECU is open

circuited.

Normal Operating Condition

No faults related to VGT actuator drive of EMS.

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness connections between EMS ECU & VGT valve, VGT valve,

EMS ECU

Healing Condition

Ignition ON and after 1 driving cycle of fault rectification

Component Details:

A

Variable Turbine Geometry

turbocharger is also known as a

variable geometry turbocharger (VGT)

, or a

Variable

Nozzle Turbine (VNT)

. A turbocharger equipped with Variable Turbine Geometry has little movable vanes which can

direct exhaust flow onto the turbine blades. The vane angles are adjusted via an actuator. The angle of the vanes varies

throughout the engine RPM range to optimize turbine behavior.

Preliminary Checks:

x

Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If yes,

go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

x

Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to earlier

issue closure.

x

Loose/ Damaged Connections between VGT Actuator and EMS ecu? If found rectify as per schematics.

x

Check for back out of pins at both VGT Actuator connector and EMS ECU connector.

x

Check for damage of pins at both VGT Actuator and EMS ECU connector.
