P0220-12: Short Circuit to Battery of Accelerator Pedal Sensor 1– Circuit Short to Battery
Overview:
ISO Code
P0220-12
Customer Symptom
Vehicle Speed / Engine Speed will be restricted.
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
Vehicle Speed / Engine Speed will be restricted to a calibratable
threshold.
Lamp Status (If Any)
MIL ON after 1 drive cycle
Fault Detection Condition
When the Ignition State is On and Accelerator pedal Sensor 2 signal pin
is short Circuited to Battery, this fault gets logged.
Normal Operating Condition
EMS ECU receives plausible signal from Accelerator pedal Sensor 2.
Probable Trouble Area
Wiring Harness Connections, Sensor
Healing Condition
After 3 drive cycles
Component Details:
For safety reasons, the accelerator pedal Sensor is equipped with 2 resistors (potentiometers) with varying operating
ranges and separate Circuits. A
potentiometer
informally a
pot
, is a three- terminal resistor with a sliding contact
that forms an adjustable voltage divider. If only two terminals are used, one end and the wiper, it acts as a
variable
resistor
or
rheostat
.
Preliminary Checks:
1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Sensor and EMS ECU.
2) Check for back out of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector.
3) Check for damage of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector.
4) Check the continuity from Sensor connector pins to the ECU pins.
