P0351-14: Ignition Coil “A” Primary Control Circuit High– Circuit Short to Ground or Open

Customer Symptom

1. Engine shuts off and can be only started after Ignition switch resetting or

coil has cooled down.

2. Misfires may happen

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

1. Engine shuts off and can be only started after Ignition switch resetting or

coil has cooled down.

2. Misfires may happen

3. Igniton failure may lead to misfire & stall the engine.

Lamp Status (If Any)

MIL ON after 1 drive cycle

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged when the Ignition coil A control pin of EMS ECU is Open

Circuited

Normal Operating Condition

Healthy wiring harness connections between Ignition Coil A and EMS ECU

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness connections, Ignition coil A

Healing Condition

After 3 driving cycles

Fault permanent deletion

1. Clear DTC Command form Scan tool

2. Stack Over Flow.

3. 40 warm up cycles.

4. ECU Flashing.

5. ECU Power-Fail.

Component Details:

An

ignition coil

(also called a

spark coil

) is an induction coil in an automobile's ignition system which transforms the

battery's low voltage to the thousands of volts needed to create an electric spark in the spark plugs to ignite the fuel.

The wire that goes from the ignition coil to the distributor and the high voltage wires that go from the distributor to each

of the spark plugs are called spark plug wires or high tension leads.

Preliminary Checks:

1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Ignition coil A and EMS ECU.

2) Check for back out of pins at both Ignition Coil connector and ECU connector.

3) Check for damage of pins at both Ignition Coil connector and ECU connector.
