P0504-02 Brake signal: not available Overview: ISO Code • P0504-02 Customer Symptom • Creep function disabled. Fault Effects (On Vehicle) • Transmission Fault Lamp ON • Creep function disabled Lamp Status (If Any) • Transmission fault lamp ON Fault Detection Condition • brake signal not available for >1100 ms Normal Operating Condition • EMS ECU Communicate properly with DCT TCU • EMS ECU send Brake signal data on CAN BUS to DCT TCU Probable Trouble Area • EMS ECU or node disconnected or EMS ECU not connected properly. • Loose connection of EMS ECU fuse. • Brake switch any environmental contamination. Healing Condition • The reaction is cleared at SW restart or driving if the detection is FALSE for more than 1100 ms Component Details: Controller Area Network or CAN protocol is a method of communication between various electronic devices like engine management systems, IPC, active suspension, ABS, gear control, lighting control, air conditioning, airbags, central locking etc. embedded in an automobile.Brake switch is connected to the EMS ECU. Brake pedal position signal is transmitted by EMS ECU via CAN bus to the TCU. Preliminary Checks: 1) Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence. 2) Loose/ Damaged Brake pedal switch Connections to EMS ECU. 3) Check for short conditions between CAN_H-CAN_L, CAN_H-GND, CAN_L-GND, CAN_H-Vbatt and CAN_L-Vbatt at OBD connector. There should not be any short circuit conditions. 4) Check fuses of EMS ECU and loose connection in EMS ECU connector. 5) Check for damage or back out of pins at EMS ECU connector and TCU connector. 6) Check correct fitment of ground cable connections on vehicle chassis. Trouble Shooting:- Step Checks IF YES IF NO 1. Check the EMS ECU engine controller and the CAN connection in the vehicle.Check other modules on CAN, if this issue is reported. Fix the problem on engine controller. Check the EMS ECU is powered up properly with battery,Ignition and ground lines Clear the DTC and check if the DTC does not come back. Go to step 2 2. Check the brake switch for any environmental contamination. If contamination exist, remove the contamination. Release vehicle to the customer after final drive test. DTC’s confirmation:-
