P1259: Rail Pressure Control - Trim High and Flow High
Overview:
DTC Description as per ISO standard
Rail pressure control error - IMV current trim too high
ECU Pin Number
11
Customer Symptom
Engine vibration / abnormal noise.
Engine restricted performance
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
Rail Valve discharge is disabled for all four injectors
Reduced torque is activated
Cylinder balancing is disabled
Injector SPCS learning strategy will be disabled
Lamp Status (If Any)
CE lamp is on
Fault Detection Condition
This DTC gets logged if the Rail pressure trim is less than the calibrated
value.
Normal Operating Condition
No Faults related to Rail pressure control.
Probable Trouble Area
Rail pressure sensor, ECU, IMV, HP fuel Pump, LP fuel circuit, Rail
discharge valve, Wiring harness
Component Details:
The Inlet Metering Valve controls rail pressure by regulating the amount of fuel sent to the pumping components of the HP
pump. This actuator has a double role as follows:
First it improves injection system output since the HP pump only compresses the amount of fuel needed to maintain the
rail pressure required by the system.
Secondly it reduces the temperature in the fuel tank as HP pump will be fed with the required amount of fuel for Engine
needs.
In fact, when excess fuel is sent to the return circuit, the expansion of the fluid (from rail pressure to atmospheric
pressure) involves a large amount of heat. This generates an increase in temperature of the fuel sent back to the tank.
Preliminary Checks
x
Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If
yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.
x
Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to
earlier issue closure.
x
Check whether adequate fuel is available in the tank.
x
Check there is no air entry in to the low pressure fuel line.
x
Ensure fuel filter is not clogged.
x
Ensure there is no leakage in the high pressure fuel line.
x
Check & ensure rail pressure sensor, IMV & EMS ecu connectors for proper fitment
x
Check for IMV related faults (P0251, P0253, P0255) and if found refer rectification process for IMV fault.
