P0299: Turbocharger under Boost condition

Overview:

Description as per ISO

Standard

Turbocharger/Supercharger "A" Under boost Condition

ECU Pin number

08

Customer Symptom

Engine restricted performance

Probable black smoke

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Disables EGR by setting desired rate to 0. This will affect

EGRH rate, EGRL rate, IFLAP, Throttle, Intake manifold

pressure and boost pressure.

Reduced Torque Mode gets activated.

Speed Pilot control dynamic will get disabled (Injector dynamic learning).

VGT actuator control will be disabled

Lamp Status (If Any)

CE Lamp ON

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged if the error between the Boost demand and boost

pressure feedback is too high.(Boost demand is far high than feedback)

Normal Operating Condition

Boost Pressure feedback from sensor is as per the Boost demand through

VGT.

Probable Trouble Area

Inlet Air circuit clogged, Air filter clogged, Charge air leakage in inlet air

circuit, Turbo / Intercooler hoses / pipes damage.

Healing Condition

Ignition ON and after 1 driving cycles of fault rectification

Component Details:

A

Variable Turbine Geometry

turbocharger is also known as a

variable geometry turbocharger (VGT)

, or a

Variable

Nozzle Turbine (VNT)

. A turbocharger equipped with Variable Turbine Geometry has little movable vanes which can

direct exhaust flow onto the turbine blades. The vane angles are adjusted via an actuator. The angle of the vanes varies

throughout the engine RPM range to optimize turbine behavior.

Preliminary Checks:

x

Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If yes,

go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

x

Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to earlier

issue closure.

x

Check for damage of Hoses / pipes connected in the Inlet air circuit (Intercooler, Turbo charger)

x

Check for clogging of Air filter / Inlet air circuit.

x

Check for P0045 / P0047 / P0048 / P0237 / P0238 / P1235 / P1236 / P1237 / P1238

DTC’s. If found rectify by

following their rectification procedure.

Trouble Shooting:

Step Checks

IF YES

IF NO

1.

Check whether the VGT Actuator connector is fitted

Go to Next Step

Fit the connector
