P0172-92: System Too Rich – Performance or Incorrect Operation
Overview:

Customer Symptom
Acceleration and Overall vehicle performance will be affected
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
1. Too Rich fuel can heat of the engine as well as exhaust components.
2. Acceleration and overall vehicle performance is affected.
3. Lambda short term and long term adaptations will be switched off.
Lamp Status (If Any)
MIL ON after 3 drive cycles
Fault Detection Condition
This fault gets logged if the fuel content in the Air fuel mixture is higher than
required or air content is lower than required.
Normal Operating Condition
Air Fuel Mixture will be appropriate to the Torque and Emissions requirement.
Probable Trouble Area
Fuel Regulator/ Inlet metering valve stuck open, Injectors, Throttle valve stuck
Closed
Healing Condition
Vehicle running and after 3 drive cycles
Fault permanent deletion
1. Clear DTC Command form Scan tool
2. Stack Over Flow.
3. 40 warm up cycles.
4. ECU Flashing.
5. ECU Power-Fail

Preliminary Checks:
1. Excessive fuel supply
2. Bad Fuel Regulator / Inlet metering valve.
3. Throttle valve stuck Open
4. Injector delay time incorrect
