P0328-15: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High – Circuit Short to Battery or Open

Customer Symptom

Permanent Ignition Retardation.Knock control is not active, Power loss due to

Ignition retardation

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

1. No knock control active.

2. Permanent ignition retardation.

3. Engine damage can happen with bad fuel quality.

Lamp Status (If Any)

CE lamp ON after 5 drive cycle

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged if the Knock Sensor positive Line or Negative line is short

Circuited to Battery and Engine is in Running Condition..

Normal Operating Condition

Healthy Wiring Harness connections between Knock Sensor and EMS ECU.

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness Connections, Knock Sensor

Healing Condition

Engine Running Condition and after 1 drive Cycle

Fault permanent deletion

1. Clear DTC Command form Scan tool

2. Stack Over Flow.3. 40 warm up cycles.4. ECU Flashing.5. ECU Power-Fail

Component Details:

Knock Sensor consists of a piezoelectric element. Piezoelectric elements generate voltage when vibration or pressure

is applied to them. The Piezoelectric element in the knock Sensor is tuned to the Engine Knock Frequency.

Preliminary Checks:

1) Loose/ Damaged Connections between Sensor and EMS ECU.

2) Check for back out of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector.

3) Check for damage of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector.

4) Check the continuity from Sensor connector pins to the ECU pins.
