P1606: Non Volatile Memory – CAN/KWP fault

Overview:

DTC Description as per ISO standard.

ECU non-volatile memory fault

Customer Symptom

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

No recovery action.

Lamp Status (If Any)

-

Fault Detection Condition

Non Volatile memory - CAN or KWP [ECU non-volatile memory fault] -

CAN / KWP fault. This DTC gets logged due to ECU internal NVM failure.

Normal Operating Condition

No faults related to NVM logged by EMS.

Probable Trouble Area

ECU, Grounding points, Wiring harness

Healing Condition

Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle & fly-up condition

Component Details:

EMS ECU is an electronic controller which controls the Engine functionality by interfacing with various sensors, actuators

and other controllers (via CAN)

Preliminary Checks:

Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If

yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to

earlier issue closure. Check for pin back out at EMS ecu connector or EGR valve connector.

Check whether the EMS is receiving Battery supply and Ground

x

Check whether the Battery is healthy

Trouble Shooting:

Check whether the EMS ECU is receiving supply and

Ground. Check especially the earthing points whether

they are properly connected after removing body paint.

Any problem found?

Go to step 2

Rectify wiring

Check whether the battery is healthy

Repair Battery

If fault still persists

Replace EMS ECU

Repeat above

procedure for

reconfirmation
