P0384: Glow Plug Control Module 1 Control Circuit High
Overview:
DTC Description as per ISO standard
Glow Plug Control Module 1 Control Circuit High
ECU Pin Number
26, 57
Customer Symptom
Delayed engine start under cold environment conditions
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
Glow plug control will be disabled.
Lamp Status (If Any)
CE lamp is on.
Fault Detection Condition
Glow Plug Drive pin of EMS ecu SC to GND.
Normal Operating Condition
No faults related to Glow Plug Drive from EMS
Probable Trouble Area
Glow plug controller, ECU, Wiring harness connections between
EMS and GPIU.
Healing Condition
Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle & fly-up condition
Component Details:
Under cold condition, the Engine will not start at first crank. So Glow plugs are used to increase the combustion chamber
temperature allowing the air-fuel mixture to reach its self-ignition condition, which will ensure engine start with large
benefit in-terms of emission & combustion.
Preliminary Checks
x
Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If
yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.
x
Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to
earlier issue closure.
x
Check the power fuse of EMS ecu main power relay, replace if it is blown off.
x
Check whether the resistance of glow plugs is according to specifications, if not replace the glow plugs.
x
Check for damage / back out of pins at EMS Connector. If found rectify / replace.
Trouble Shooting:
Step Checks
IF YES
IF NO
1.
Is there any rust/oxidization observed on glow plug
Terminals
Clean the Rust or
repair or replace
Go to Step 2
2.
Is there wiring harness electrical continuity between ECU
pins 26, 57 & Glow plug connector pins 4, 7. Also Check
continuity between the Main Relay supply and GPIU .
Go to Step 3
Establish continuity
by rectifying
harness
connections as per
the circuit
schematic
3. Are there any pins damaged at Glow plug/EMS ECU
Connector
Replace the
connector or wiring
harness
Go to step 4
4
