P0380: Glow Plug feedback line Short to Ground or Open Circuited

Overview:

DTC Description as per ISO standard

Glow Plug/Heater Circuit “A”.

ECU Pin Number

26, 57

Customer Symptom

May have delayed engine start under cold weather conditions.

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Cold start not possible.

Lamp Status (If Any)

CE lamp is on.

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged when the Glow plug is driven by ECU but feedback

is saying that glow plugs are off or Vice versa.

Normal Operating Condition

Diagnostic tool display the Glow plug status at ignition ON

Probable Trouble Area

Glow plugs, Glow plug controller, ECU, Wiring harness

Healing Condition

Clear the errors, Ignition OFF to ON, engine idle & fly-up condition

Component Details:

Under cold condition, the Engine will not start at first crank. So Glow plugs are used to increase the combustion chamber

temperature allowing the air-fuel mixture to reach its self-ignition condition, which will ensure proper engine start with large

benefit in-terms of emission & combustion.

Preliminary Checks:

Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned above. If

yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check f

or other DTC’s presence.

Check whether similar complaints are earlier reported. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with respect to

earlier issue closure.

x

Check whether the GPIU is physically damaged.

x

Check for pins back out at EMS ecu connector and GPIU connector.

x

Check the 60 A fuse of glow plug relay 1 and 2, replace if they are blown off. Check the fuse of EMS ecu main

power relay, replace if it is blown off. Check whether glow plug is getting Ignition supply.

Check whether the resistance of glow plugs is according to specifications, if not replace the glow plugs.
